Money
from a website?
There
are a few ways to make money from your website without actually
offering any sort of product or service yourself.
If
you already have a website you could make a little extra cash hosting
adverts from Google or other search engines, or by linking to relative
products and companies using affiliate links.
If
you don't already have a site, it's fairly easy to pick up some
cheap hosting (space on the web to hold your site) a domain name
(e.g. www.mysite.com) and some software (sometimes free with hosting).
What
kind of web site should I build?
Experienced
"Web marketers" will often research lots of areas and
develope a site to match a category they think they can do well
in, or offer something new in. For your first site however, I'd
suggest developing a site about something you already know about,
whether it be a hobby, favourite holiday destination etc.
Once you've
settled on a topic for your site, you should set about researching
some other sites of the same type, then plan your site on paper
- remember to include space for your advertisements or affiliate
links!
Search
Engine Optimisation!
Sounds
complicate - but the idea is simple. As I'm sure you're aware, the
easiest way to find websites on a particular topic is to use a search
engine such as Google or Yahoo. Getting "hits" from people
finding your site on a search engine requires a bit more than just
submitting your site however, it envolves creating your site so
that it is search engine friendly.

Types
of Advertising - Affiliate and Google Adsense
There are 2
types of advertising mainly used by webmasters to generate revenue,
affiliate advertising and Goodle Adwords.
Affiliate advertising
involves advertising other companies' products on your site, in
turn, you get a percentage of any sale that rersults from a user
of your site "clicking through" to an advertisers site.
Affiliate schemes
are often run by the advertisers themselves (e.g. Amazon runs it's
own scheme, and was infact the creator of the affiliate scheme!)
There are, however,
online services that specialise in promoting companies affiliate
schemes for them. You can sign up and have access to hundreds of
affiliate schemes from all sorts of companies, so finding one to
fit the content of your website should be easy!
There are two
affiliate schemes you should sign up for immediately:
I recommend
Affiliate
Future and Affiliate
Window
Also, sign up for Google Adsense:
Signing
up for Google Adsense allows you to place Google adverts on your
website. It's extremely easy to do, and the adverts that are shown
are automatically generated by Google to match the content on your
site - so if you have a site about Trekking in the Pyranees, Google
will display adverts related to trekking and the Pyranees! You then
get paid comission by Google for every click on your hosted adverts
- easy!
Conclusion
So
what are you waiting for? Sign up for some web hosting with 1and1
and get your webspace and software, design your site, then signe
up for Adsense and\or one of the affiliate programs above, you'll
be making some extra cash before you know it!
